Periodontal Disease Treatment.
We provide advanced treatments for gingivitis and periodontitis to stop the progression of gum disease around teeth and implants to reduce the chance of tooth loss.
Non-surgical Treatment Includes:
- Deep Cleaning: Scaling and root planing (deep cleaning) is used to reduce bacteria (plaque) and calculus (tartar) below the gumline. This promotes improved health of the gums and the body in general.
- Antimicrobial therapy: Because of the bacterial nature of gum disease, we may recommend antimicrobials as part of treatment. This could be in the form of antibiotics taken orally or localized antibiotics placed below the gumline.
Surgical Treatment Includes:
- Pocket reduction surgery: This procedure reduces the area where bacteria can accumulate below the gumline. It helps to decrease bacterial build up and allows you and the hygienist better access to remove bacterial plaque.
- Periodontal regeneration surgery: In certain circumstances, bone that has been lost due to gum disease can be regrown using specific techniques and products that encourage bone healing.
- Grafting: For individuals experiencing gum recession, we offer procedures to cover the root of the tooth and add thickness to the gum tissues.
- Crown lengthening: This type of surgery is required when a filling or crown needs to be completed for a tooth that has either decayed or has a fracture that extends below the gumline. The bone and soft tissue are reshaped to allow for a new filling or crown to be placed. Esthetic crown lengthening can also be performed if a person has a gummy smile and/or short teeth. This increases the length of your teeth.
